The four candidates vying for the mayor’s chair in North Bay have a busy day.

First, they’re taking part in a debate on Country 600 CKAT this morning, just after the 8 am news.

Then tonight there’s another debate, at 6:30 pm in the Nipissing University theatre.

That event is being hosted by the Nipissing/Canadore Coalition for Political Awareness.

Incumbent Al McDonald, Gary Gardiner, Sheldon Forgette and Will Boissoin are seeking the job.

Meantime, after other candidates previously received public backing, about 100 people surprised McDonald with a show of support yesterday.

Officials says community and business leaders, Liberals, Conservatives, NDP supporters, and others attended the event to show their support.

And Gardiner has released the 9th plank in his election platform.

He’s calling for an integrated, multi-modal, approach to transportation — including planes, trains and trucking.

Gardiner plans on working with economic development officials along with both the ONTC and mining sector to promote growth.
