A couple of Halloween reminders from the North Bay Police Service.

First, they’re asking residents to put safety first this Halloween.

They point out the Health Unit is not recommending door-to-door trick or treating and they’re encouraging people to follow the recommendations of health officials.

“We have to adjust our actions this year due to the Covid 19 pandemic. We continue to encourage people to follow the guidelines our health experts have provided for us,” says Police Chief Scott Tod.

He also has a reminder about social gatherings.

“People need to be aware that indoor groups in excess of 10 people can face enforcement action meaning fines of $880 dollars per person,” says Tod.

Police say under the authority of the Reopening Ontario Act the maximum number of people permitted to attend organized public events and social gatherings is 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

This includes functions such as Halloween parties or gatherings held in private residences, backyards, or recreational areas.

NOTE: Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic and the need to continue to social distance the North Bay Police will not be inviting trick or treaters into the police building this year.
Police too are hoping that by following the health recommendations we can all see our ghosts and goblins in the community next year.

In the same release, police say that according to the National Safety Council motor vehicle collisions involving child pedestrians are more than twice as likely to occur on Halloween as on any other day of the year.
