There is a second positive case of COVID-19 at Chippewa Secondary School.

That confirmed by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and the Near North District School Board.

The Health Unit says it is not declaring an outbreak, as the cases do not have an epidemiological link, meaning they are not a part of the same class or cohort and transmission took place outside the school.

The Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jim Chirico says steps have been taken for people who had high risk contact to the two cases.

“Self isolate, monitor themselves closely for symptoms and to be tested for COVID-19. All high risk contacts of a case of COVID-19 are required to isolate for 14 days from the last exposure of the case,” he says.

There are five active cases of COVID-19 in the Nipissing District and all are self isolating.

Meantime, Dr. Chirico says they’re working well with the school boards on health protocols.

“Our call centre specifically for schools remains open should any clarifications be needed. We’re also supporting our schools with public health nurses should they require COVID-19 issues for support,” Dr. Chirico says.

He says with the 2nd wave here he’s recommending limiting travel outside the home to attending school or work and essential trips like the grocery store and for medication and medical appointments.

He also suggests limiting exercise to outdoor spaces.
