A community partnership between the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, Trees for Nipissing and Women Ten Living Fit inside-out has resulted in several hundred trees being planted.

Troy Storms is the Manager of Lands and Stewardship for the conservation authority.

He says they planted 900 seedlings at the starter nursery bed in North Bay.

“These trees are going to be used for planting on water courses, rivers, streams and erosion sites. They’ll also be contributing to the clean air, clean water and lots more shade to,” he says.

He says the planting of trees has many benefits in the battle against climate change.

On hand were grandparents and grandchildren as part of the planting project. Storms says it sends a positive message as the young people can return to see the trees progress that they planted.

Trees for Nipissing has planted 7,500 trees since 2004 and the seedlings planted today will take 3-5 years to grow.
