We’re getting closer to pick-your-own strawberry season at Leisure Farms in Sturgeon Falls.

Third generation farmer Mitch DesChatelets says pick-your-own could be as early as tomorrow (Fri) or sometime over the weekend.

Specifics will be announced on their Facebook page.

He says something different this year is that they won’t have wagon rides out to the fields.

“People will have to walk to the field and the distances vary on the day, depending on which field we are in. Some of the fields are a little hike so they have to come prepared, wear good shoes, drink lots of water,” he says.

Pre-picked strawberries will also be available.

“We will have a special effort this year to always keep pre-picked strawberries in stock at the store, so if you can’t make the walk there should be plenty available right on site,” DesChatalets says.

Another change this year is two sizes of baskets will be available for a flat rate.

They won’t be weighing baskets to avoid touching them and keep things going faster.

A four litre basket is $12 while it’s $7 for a two litre basket.

“We’re all in this together and we’re trying our best to make things work and we hope that everything goes back to normal as soon as possible,” he adds.

Leisure Farms is located on Quesnel Road in Sturgeon Falls.
