Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the North Bay area.

It takes in North Bay, Powassan, Mattawa and West Nipissing.

The watch says there’s potential for wind gusts of 90 km/h.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected to move east-southeastward across the regions this afternoon and early evening.

The watch adds strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
