Council is meeting virtually tonight at 6:30 pm with some finalized items involving the 2020 budget on the agenda.

The fiscal plan was approved back in December.

A staff report says the overall tax rate increase is 1.8 percent, including the education tax rate.

Also on the agenda tonight is a councillor motion to support a motion in Midland that calls for direct payment of Federal funds to municipalities to waive property taxes for 2020, as financial help to alleviate suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another report and a councillor motion involves Jack Garland Airport and the COVID-19 impact.

They’re asking council to use capital funds for operations and to subsidize the airport up to $200,000 a month to the end of the year once cash reserves are exhausted.
