An update on yesterday evening’s fire on the 100 block of Third Ave East.

Fire officials say early indications are that careless cooking may have been the cause and they remind residents to ensure barbecues are given significant clearance from the home.

They also say the homeowner is being charged with failure to properly maintain working smoke alarms.

The fire started at the back of the home and extended into the attic and roof.

Fire crews put the fire out quickly but there was significant damage.
