Canadians are gearing up to sing the Tragically Hip classic Courage on Thursday night.

The plan is to echo the lyrics of late Hip frontman Gord Downie, a man whose courage truly knew no bounds.

Following the lead of Spain and Italy, Canadian’s will sing from their bedroom windows, balconies and porches.

Thursday night at 6 pm EST, the lyrics “courage, it couldn’t come at a worse time” will ring out from the rooftops. In actuality, this is an opportune time for a showing of courage.

Montreal comedian Joey Elias says he came up with the idea as something to “take the edge off.”

“If we could just get together as a country with a band that united us already and forget about all that nonsense and dance like nobody’s watching. It’s a quick distraction but hopefully a distraction the whole country can get behind,” Elias said.

Sing it loud and proud!

Courage (For Hugh MacLennan) Lyrics

Watch the band
Through a bunch of dancers
Quickly, follow the unknown
With something more familiar
Quickly, something familiar

Courage, my word,
It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter

Sleepwalk, so fast asleep
In a motel, that has the lay of home
And piss on all of your background
And piss on all your surroundings

Courage, my word,
It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, your word,
It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, my word,
It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, it couldn’t come at a worse time

There’s no simple explanation
For anything important any of us do
And yeah, the human tragedy
Consists in the necessity
Of living with the consequences
Under pressure, under pressureCourage, my word,
It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter,
Courage, your word,
It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, my word,

It didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, it couldn’t come at a worse time
It couldn’t come at a worse time
It couldn’t come at a worse time
Courage
