The city is calling for public art submissions that will be used to beautify the downtown.

The Public Art Advisory Committee and Downtown North Bay are looking for digitally created images, scans of artwork or photographs and they will be used at 13 traffic boxes in the downtown.

Katie Bevan is vice chair of Downtown North Bay and says all submissions will be looked at.

“It’s really about what the piece looks like and how we’ll picture it downtown. We want versatility and variety. The artists can be of any age. It’s very exciting,” she says.

City Councillor Marcus Tignanelli says this is a great way of beautifying the downtown.

“It helps with graffiti mitigation. It will also help to clean up the downtown as this will be like a walking art gallery. And let’s face it, the grey traffic boxes are not that appealing to the eye,” Tignanelli says.

Successful applicants will receive a $200 honorarium.

The registration period is now underway with the deadline being March 13th. the 13 winners notified on March 16th.

The installation of the works will start on March 24th and then shown to the public a week later.
