Details have been announced for the upcoming FIRST Robotics event at Nipissing University. Tthe three day event will be held from March 27th-29th.

Jared Kelso is a member of the local team known as 1305. He previews this years competition.

“This year it is called Infinite Recharge. We have to pick up yellow dodge balls called power cells and shoot them into a high goal nine feet tall,” he says.

He says the robot isn’t ready yet and the name will be unveiled a few days before the event. Organizers are adding two non competitive events: a tech competition and a junior event.

They say there will be 27 teams at the main event.

One of the main sponsors is Redpath Canada Ltd.

Vice President Scott Hayne says besides learning about robotics there are more pluses for students.

“It also gives students softer skills like problem solving, time management, public speaking and marketing,” Hayne says.
