With various forms of job action underway involving all four major teachers unions MPP Vic Fedeli says the government will continue to negotiate in good faith.

“It’s important that all parties work together to reach a deal that supports the students, that’s what it’s all about, it’s always been about the students,” he says.

Fedeli says parents deserve predictability and peace of mind for the coming year.

He was asked if there can be movement on the issues of class sizes and e-learning.

“I’m going to leave the negotiation of this deal to the negotiators, they are working together but we’re committed to meaningful, good faith negotiations. We just want to ensure that the students are in class,” Fedeli says.

He says it’s disappointing that repeated escalation in Nipissing continues to impact student learning.

“It’s unfair to the students and it’s all about advancing higher compensation and a more generous benefit package,” Fedeli says.

He’s also reacting to opposition calls for Education Minister Stephen Lecce to be fired and replaced with someone who can resume talks with cuts off the table.

“The Premier was pretty clear that he supports Minister Lecce, there will be no change with that what-so-ever,” Fedeli says.

Meantime, the BBALL4 bullying for National Pink Shirt Day, set for February 26th at Odyssee, has been cancelled due to the education dispute.

This would have been the 9th annual community basketball game.
