The latest snow survey results from the North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority show average snow depth is about 20 percent below normal for this time of the year.

It’s also about half of what it was last year at this time.

The average snow depth of all three sites was just under 27 cm on Wednesday, January 15th.

Water content in the snow is also down.

“The average snow depth for all sites is 26.9 cm (79% normal) and average water equivalence is 49 mm (78% normal),” said Kurtis Romanchuk NBMCA’s Water Resources Engineer. “Precipitation amounts recorded at the North Bay Airport are slightly below average so far this winter (December and January), and the snowpack shows a similar trend” he added.

The Conservation Authority measures snow depth at the North Bay Golf and Country Club, Corbeil Conservation Area and the Shirley Skinner Conservation Area in Chisholm.
