Sources are confirming long time Canadian rocker, best known as the drummer and primary lyricist of the band Rush, Neil Peart has passed away from brain cancer at the age of 67.

The Hamilton, Ontario natives illustrious career, spanning nearly five decades lead him to numerous awards and accolades for his musical performances, including an induction into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 1983, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

Peart became renowned for his technical proficiency and his live performances for their exacting nature and stamina.

Surviving Rush members, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee have issued the following statement:

The rock world, as well as Canadian’s coast-to-coast shaken by the sudden and unexpected passing of Peart have taken to Twitter to show their love and support.
