The city says their year end building permit numbers show that 2019 was the second highest construction year on record.

Last year’s total was $93.3 million and that’s over $28 million more than 2018.

Officials say that’s the highest number since 2006.

Of note: residential, commercial and industrial construction values were all up year over year.

Commercial reached $45.5 million last year compared $17.4 million in 2018.

Industrial building permits totaled $12.7 million. And that’s $1.6 million higher than the year before and residential came in $22.5 million and that’s nearly $ 8 million more than 2018.

Over all, 96 new dwelling units were constructed.

On the downside, both miscellaneous and institutional building permit values went down from 2018.

On the miscellaneous side, the total was $10.6 million compared to $19.6 million in 2018 and on the institutional side, the building permit values came in at $1.97 million compared to $2.18 million for the year before.
