North Bay City Council has approved it’s share of the District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board’s budget for next year.

Overall, the budget is expected to go up by 4.4 % and that’s an increase of $500,000 for the North Bay taxpayer.

Chair Mark King says the increase is attributed in one major area.

“The EMS file is a very heavy file. There’s an increase in excess of $900,000. And that really drove the budget,” King says.

He says people in EMS handle 15,000 calls a year in the North Bay alone and those employees work very hard and they do a very tough job.

King says the board also had to deal with provincial changes.
