The North Bay Titans continue to set new club records.

The latest came at one of the largest and fastest swim meets of the season, the Neptune International, held last weekend in Montreal.

Twenty local swimmers competed at the Olympic Park event for the first time, joining over 800 athletes at the meet.

Julia Rivet broke club records in 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly, and ranked in the top 20 in Canada in three events.

She surpassed former Titan and Olympian Dominique Bouchard’s 100m free record in the 11/12 age category.

Two club records were also broken in the 4x50m free and medley relay events by Nikita Ouellette, Robby Baas, Owen Baas and Ryan Spencer.

“Our new philosophy of racing more events is paying off with swimmers advancing to finals in events they don’t typically final in,” says Coach John Mcleod. “We now have 101 swims in our club’s top 10 this season.”

“Swimmers raced the most events of their careers in Montreal with some racing 16 times over three days,” he adds. “There’s no opportunity to race this style of competition in Ontario.”

All twenty Titans swimmers had personal best times.

“We’re still very early in the season, and that’s really impressive to me, to see the athlete buy-in,” says Mcleod.

Capping off the meet for the coach was the fact the small group continued to cheer on their teammates right through the final event.

“The kids are stepping up and being amazing teammates, they recognize that being a swimmer isn’t just about jumping in the pool, it’s about cheering on their teammates,” he says.

The Titans are hosting 125 swimmers from around the region at this weekend’s second Northeast Region Development (NEOR#2) meet of the season at the North Bay YMCA pool.

They’ll be fielding the largest team, in recent memory, with 40 Titans entered.
