Officials say Stats Canada reported one in five Canadian companies were hit by hackers in 2017.

With that in mind, a two hour workshop exploring cyber hygiene is the focus locally today for Business Week 2019.

The Business Centre Nipissing Parry Sound is hosting the Free Cyber Security Workshop from 9 am to noon at The Grande Event Centre.

Officials say the learning outcomes of this workshop include:
– Participants learn how businesses are a target and the risks they face every day.
– Participants will understand how and why cyber criminals are targeting businesses.
– Participants will also identify the gaps in their own cyber security.

With more than 20 years’ experience in security and enterprise information technology, the keynote speaker, Graeme Barrie is an expert in translating complex security issues into easy to understand and relatable objectives for business owners to leverage in their own organizations.

Officials say he believes that awareness is key for business owners to protect their businesses and their clients.
