The Nipissing Serenity Hospice has announced the final piece of their fundraising goal.

It’s called the Buy A Block campaign.

They need the community to buy 14,000 blocks at a cost of $250 each.

That works out to $3.5 million.

Mike Johnson of Co-operators Insurance says supporting the hospice is a worthwhile thing to do.

“This campaign is a wonderful opportunity. Every business should be looking at that and promoting the campaign so the community hospice continues to grow,” he says.

Officials say you can buy a block on line, make a pledge or donate in any amount.

There will be a Live Donor Board that can be found on the website www.nipissingserenityhospice.ca that will allow everyone to follow along with the progress of the campaign.

Executive Director Elizabeth Evans says the hospice includes 10 patient rooms, a guest room and a sacred room.

She points out one of the rooms would house a child.

“It’s a sad fact but we will have children in our hospice. We will provide a special pediatric room so the parent can stay with the, The rooms are a little bit bigger for a child,” Evans says.

There will be a play area for children who are visiting patients.

The hospice is scheduled to open in December.
