The new Algonquin Nursing Home is officially open at 207 Turcotte Park Road in Mattawa.

Officials say it’s a key part of the Mattawa Health Hub and houses Long Term Care, a Hospice Suite, Day Program and Indigenous Services and a Community Multi-Purpose Room.

Mattawa Mayor Dean Backer says this project has been good for the local economy and for health care too.

“In terms of jobs and prosperity. It’s also a home for someone to come to later on in life. 73 beds that we wouldn’t have . The setting is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a magical time in our little town,” Backer says.

The Algonquin Nursing Home has been serving elderly residents for 40 years.

Funding for the $1.5 million project comes from the province which contributed a million and the community which raised $500,000.

That includes $75,000 from Caisse Alliance.

Pierre Noel is the President and CEO of the Mattawa Hospital and the nursing home.

He says the long term care beds are for seniors who need 24 hour nursing care.

“When people can no longer cope in their homes with support they come to a beautifulnew facility. There are mostly private and semi-private beds here and receive excellent care from our staff,” he says.

He says Mattawa now has a fully integrated health hub including the hospital and the nursing home.
