A federal funding boost for North Bay’s 6,000 square foot splash pad.

MP Anthony Rota announced 150-thousand dollars from FedNor for the Rotary Club of North Bay project.

This money will pay for phase two of the project which includes accessible change rooms and washroom facilities along with sun shelters with benches and tables, and landscaping upgrades.

Rota says the area’s come a long way since former Mayor Jack Burrows led the fight for the city to purchase the CP Rail Lands.

“Jack’s spirit is here and he’s got a smile ear to ear. It’s the vision he had. His vision comes through today. I think he’d be thrilled with what’s going on here,” he says.

Work on phase two is expected to start in the fall with some landscaping expected next spring.

The splash pad is expected to open this summer.

The total cost of the splash pad is $750,000 with the local rotary clubs pledging to raise $550,000 and they’re $50,000 away from their goal. The province is also funding the project with $150,000 and the city is chipping in with $80,000.
