History was made Thursday when the Toronto Raptors won the NBA championship at Oakland’s Oracle Arena and a couple of local residents were there to see it happen.
Jason Marchand tells BayToday he and his family are on a trip to check out some Major League Baseball games and ended up getting tickets for him and his wife to go to game six of the NBA Finals, too.
“Everyone was really nice, even post-game, a bunch of guys came up and shook my hand and other Raptors fans hands. That was unexpected to be honest, but the whole experience was really cool,” he says.
Marchand was at the Jays-Rangers playoff game for Jose Bautista’s bat-flip home-run and at game three of last year’s Stanley Cup final, but seeing the Raptors win the Larry O’Brien Trophy outranks those experiences.
“I’ve always dreamed of seeing my favourite team, whatever sport it is, winning a championship live. That alone puts this game and this experience at number one with those other two games,” he tells BayToday.
The Raptors won the game 114-110 over Golden State, winning the series 4-2.
