The ninth oldest person in the world and the oldest in North America has died.

North Bay’s Ellen ‘Dolly’ Gibb was 114.

BayToday reports Dolly became Canada’s oldest living person in 2016 and was the fifth oldest Canadian ever.

Dolly was born in Winnipeg in 1905 as Ellen Box.

She got married in 1928 to Dave Gibb and he died in 1968.

She moved from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay in 1941 and then North Bay in 2005.

When she became the oldest living Canadian she received congratulatory messages from the Prime Minister, the Governor General, the Premier and the Lieutenant Governor.

A Celebration of Life visitation Drop-In will happen on Saturday, June 15 from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Jane and Derek Wilkinson at 12 Beverly Rd, North Bay.
