Several local groups including North Bay Police and the health unit are reminding residents it’s time to spring clean their medicine cabinets.
The 7th annual Medication Drug Drop-off Day goes Friday  at Shoppers Drug Mart on Cassells Street, from 10 am to 2 pm.
Unused or expired prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and herbal supplements can be dropped off for safe disposal.
Officials say there are several goals with the event:
– To promote the safe storage and disposal of prescription, over-the counter and other drugs;
– To reduce the amount of drugs that are available in people’s homes;
– To reduce the environmental impact associated with the inappropriate disposal of these drugs in the garbage and sewer systems; and
– To increase awareness that unused or expired prescriptions, over-the-medications, vitamins and herbal supplements can be returned to any pharmacy for safe disposal any day of the year.

This event is organized by the Community Drug Strategy North Bay & Area Committee, the Stay on Your Feet Nipissing Parry Sound Coalition and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit with the support of the North Bay Police Service.
