A North Bay high school student has won a provincial award.

Dillon Anderson, who goes to West Ferris Secondary, is one of six Young Entrepeuners, Make Your Pitch competition winners.

Anderson, who is a junior scout with the Powassan Voodoos, tells BayToday about his proposal.

“A hockey school for youth 15-17 years old. They’ve got to be elite and skilled players and we want to develop them in the north,” he says.

Anderson got the idea after seeing elite players in the north having to go all the way to Toronto to attend the camps like this.

The grade 10 student received $1,500 in start up money to get his idea off the ground as well as other prizes.

West Ferris business teacher Karen Bond tells BayToday it’s a deserving honor for Anderson.

“This is a very unique young man. He’s very talented and very passionate about business and hockey. What I love about this is he’s using his passion for hockey and his knowledge for business and come up with a very realistic business concept,” Bond says.
