North Bay’s new Deputy Chief of Police is getting ready to move to the city.

This week, Michael Daze (pictured next to current deputy chief Scott Tod) attended his first police services board meeting.

He says right now he’s trying to get a lay of the land.

Daze comes from Owen Sound.

He says the communities have a lot in common including the community policing aspect.

“I think it’s really important that the community and the police have a good foundation and a good trust. It’s my priority to meet everyone here and see where we stand and how we grow and move forward,” he says.

Daze says change is good and he will give North Bay Police another set of eyes to the organization and what changes can be made to improve things.

He was asked about the opioid crisis here.

Daze says working with the agencies is very important in tackling the issue.
