The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board is well represented at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference going on in Toronto.

Board chair city councillor Mark King says a delegation met with several cabinet ministers on a wide range of issues yesterday including mental health and addictions, homelessness and employment support.

He says North Bay like other communities is dealing with mental health support issues and they need provincial help.

He says there was an ask of the Minister of Health.

“Making sure that the supports that are delivered to people in crisis situations actually is done in a constructive and affordable manner,” King says.

He says they also brought up the Cassellholme development issue.

“Asking for her to move forward with an agreement quickly to allow the Cassellholme build to happen,” he says.

King says they also met with the ministers of Education, Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Attorney General and the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

King says many issues were discussed starting with solutions on the affordable housing file with the Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister.

“The Hidden Homeless prevention strategy, the housing service act and the landlord and tenants act and where the province is headed,” King says.
