Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced $5.6 million in funding today for 5 local film and tv productions.

The list includes $3.6 million for season 2 of Carter, $960,000 for The Colin Mochrie Show which will be filmed and produced at Canadore College, $500,000 each for a pair of Christmas movies and $65,000 for the film Astonishing Tales of Terror.

The two Christmas movies are called Christmas In Love and Sleigh Bell Sweethearts.

Fedeli says the Mochrie show will be a great career opportunity for Canadore students.

“The students will be on the set, they’ll get their hours in, they’ll get their school time in as this is as close to an apprenticeship as you’ll ever get for the students,” he says.

Canadore College president George Burton the show will havre will quite the impact the show will have at Canadore.

“We couldn’t think of a better learning experience for our students. At the same time, they’re learning with some of the best Canadian talent that we’ve produced and we’re really excited about this project,” Burton says.

Fedeli says the financial impact of tv and film productions in North Bay has gone from 9 to $23 million in 1 year.
