North Bay’s Dave Innes is back home after a very successful Invictus Games.

The highlight was winning silver in indoor rowing.

He says the medal was unexpected.

“My rowing was actually my weak sport going into the games. My progress was slow in training but definitely it was a bonus to get a silver,” he says.

He can’t thank people enough for all the support he received during the competition in Australia.

“Being able to have that and being able to have my social media with me over there was a reminder that everyone is back home watching was pretty overwhelming,” Innes says.

Innes also competed in powerlifting and wheelchair basketball.

Innes says he has a lifetime of memories from the games.

“Lifelong long friends I’ve made with some of the athletes from other countries. Some of the inspiring stories I heard from other soldiers. It goes to show you never take anything for granted,” Innes says.

Innes says his next challenge is to represent Canada in the Paralympics in 2020.
