The North Bay Battalion have added experience to their blueline.

They’ve acquired overage defenceman Theo Calvas from Sarnia in exchange for a 5th round selection in 2020 and a conditional 6th round pick in 2022.

Calvas says he was 1 of 4 overage players on the Sting so they all knew someone was going to be dealt.

“Everyone was competing to gain a spot on the team. The chips fell how they fell and for whatever reason I was traded and I’m happy to be here,” he says.

Calvas, who is from Michigan played 96 games with the Sting after being traded from Sault Ste Marie in 2017.

The 6’5″ blue liner has a career total of 150 OHL games played with 33 points and a plus 20 rating.

The Troops have given up 38 goals in 7 games. Calvas says defense is his game.

“I’m a big body on the defensive end. I’m going to be a huge shutdown guy and be able to reduce the number of goals against and I’ll be able to help on the offensive side as well,” Calvas says.
