The land that contains the former Kenroc site at the waterfront has been sold by the city to pave the way for a condominium development.

Council approved the $25,000 deal last night and the developer New Vision Property Services out of Sudbury has until next August to meet its part of the agreement.

North Bay Mayor Al McDonald says this was the plan along with council updating the Downtown Waterfront Master Plan.

“Our goal was always to bring people downtown. This is a perfect fit and I think this is something the community will really celebrate to be honest,” he says.

He says the plan calls for 63 units in total and will be built in 3 phases.

He says each phase represents a $5 million investment and each unit will be 1,600 square feet in size.

McDonald says the developer accepts the environmental liabilities from building on the site.

McDonald says each phase will be built as they sell. He says there’s no question these units will be in high demand.

“If you get another 100-120 people moving downtown maybe you spur a small grocery store it’s going to help the restaurants down there and it’s going to create a vibrancy,” he says.

McDonald doesn’t expect the development to have a major impact on traffic in the area.
