North Bay Fire and Emergency Services has banned any open burning in the city.

The ban includes fireworks as well.

The ban affects current permit holders.

The fire department says burning brush or grass can be dangerous and 1 careless moment can lead to a wildfire.

Bans are also in place in East Ferris, West Nipissing, Chisholm, Powassan, Nipissing, Callander, Mattawa, Burks Falls, Sundridge, Magnetawan, Kearney and Perry.

Temagami has suspended permits but are allowing camp fires.

Meantime, all fire permits have been cancelled in the Village of South River and Machar Township — and officials say fireworks are NOT permitted either.

Campfires of 18 cubic inches are allowed, but officials say they should be handled with extreme care.
