The OPP has two main messages for boaters as they take their watercraft out for the season.

Provincial Constable Shona Camirand says they want boaters to be safe.

“Wear your Personal Floatation Device and to drive sober. Lifejackets save lives. There’s no sense to have a lifejacket in some compartment where you can’t reach it in case of trouble. Wear them,” she says.
She says also develop a safety plan and be prepared to act in bad weather as the situation in the water can change rapidly.

“What’s going to happen if the weather gets bad. How are you going to handle that. Where are you going to go? What are you going to do? There’s so much think about in safe boating,” Camirand says.

There was an open house to highlight safe boating Friday afternoon at the North Bay Marina.
