The Gathering Place has received $20,000 in funding to help pay for new equipment when they make the move to a much larger facility this year.

Executive Director Dennis Chippa says the funds are from Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life.

“It’s going to be tables and chairs, extra fridges, extra freezers and we’ve got our eye on a stationary kettle.”
He says the new facility is on Cassells Street and the main part of the construction should be done by early spring with the move taking place in June.

“The new building will have 40 seats. There will be a vestibule to allow people to wait while the other 40 people are eating.”

Meantime, Chippa says they’ve had an informal relationship with the Warming Centre for sometime time but they’ve now formalized it meaning funds raised from the upcoming Coldest Night of the Year event will support both organizations.
