Six Nipissing Lakers varsity teams are in action this weekend. Both basketball teams host Algoma Friday then Guelph on Saturday.

In OUA hockey, the Nipissing men visit Brock Friday  then Guelph on Saturday.

The women are on the road taking on York on Saturday.

And it’s the fall finale for the Nipissing volleyball teams on Saturday. They’re home to Trent. The OUA volleyball season resumes in January.

The Powassan Voodoos have three games in three days this weekend. They travel north Friday to take on Hearst, then visit Cochrane on Saturday and Timmins on Sunday.

This week’s OCAA and CCAA athlete of the week is a Canadore student. Ashlyn Kadlecik had quite the match against Fleming last week. She contributed 30 assists in a 4 set comeback win. The Panthers with a 2-4 record host centennial on Sunday at noon. The men’s game is at 2 also against Centennial. Canadore’s men’s basketball team host Georgian tomorrow at 4.

The North Bay Major Midget Trappers have a busy weekend ahead. They start their weekend Friday against their arch rivals Nickel Capital Wolves as they battle for first place at Memorial Gardens, game time is 7:30pm.

Saturday and Sunday’s contests are with the Sault Ste Marie Majors, game time Saturday is 7:30 at the Gardens and Sunday at 2:30 in Powassan.

Two local high school teams are taking part in the OFSAA championships.

Algonquin is 2-1 at the OFSAA A girls event..

Meantime, the Chippewa Raiders are done at the boys AAA volleyball as they dropped all 4 games in their pool.
