The 2018 Capital Budget should be passed sometime this month.

A council committee passed it this week.

Chief Financial Officer Margaret Karpenko says the budget is down significantly this year from a year ago.

“Primarily we’re spending less due to the reduction of provincial and federal grants. The gross investment has gone down from $44 million in 17 and we’re now at 32.7”

She says the other major item is that $500,000 worth of projects are either being eliminated or deferred.

The deferred projects include the rehabilitation of the parking lot at the Pete Polangio Arena and work on Lakeshore Drive from Birchs Rd. to Premier Rd.

She says that money will be spent on the arena project.

“We have set aside some moneys to start some planning and site selection costs.”
