The North Bay Airfield was the site of a unique competition on Friday morning and the United Way Northeast Ontario was the big beneficiary.

16 teams of 15 people pulled a CRJ aircraft for 30 metres each.

Captain Gabe Gosselin of 22 Wing says the aircraft weighs 3,600 pounds.

He says Voyageur Airways played a big role in taking part in the event.

“They put in 7 teams, the members of CFB 22 Wing North Bay, we have a team from MetricAid downtown, the North Bay Police and Canadore College.”

Lt. Col. Mark Lachapelle the Commanding Officer at 21 Squadron says their members live in the community and they get behind events like this and others as a way of giving back.

“Such as the Military Family Resource Centre, support for the Canadian Cancer Society and some for rescue and support dogs for veterans. It’s a great opportunity for us to give back to the community.”
The Voyageur Hurricans won the event with a time of 15.72 seconds and $2,500 was raised for the United Way.
