The North Bay Trappers will be hosting the 2018 Atom AA OHF Provincial Championship next Spring.

That announcement on the weekend from Trappers coach Marc Long.

He says he first expressed interest in hosting the event back in March.

“They kind of laughed, they said ‘we haven’t even held a meeting or anything yet’, well I said I’m very interested in getting this.  It’s huge for the city, not only the hockey, just the whole city, bringing money in for the restaurants and hotels,” he says.

The best five teams in Ontario, including the host Trappers, will be taking part in the tournament in April 2018.

Long says it’s going to be quite the experience for the players.

“Not only have they won the last 2 NOHA’s and they deserve to be here and we want to get there by winning, we don’t want to be the host team.  Just the experience, the banquet, the opening ceremonies, these kids are going to be treated like they’re in the NHL,” he says.

The hope is to have games at Memorial Gardens, but that has yet to decided.
