The North Bay Battalion are getting ready for the start of a new season.

The Troops entertain Barrie tomorrow night (Friday) in their season opener at Memorial Gardens.

One player that’s back from injury is Battalion Captain Riley Bruce.

He says the off-season was a bit different for him.

“I had to have surgery in March, I was in a sling for 6 weeks after that and then it was kind of a slow road to recovery. By the middle of the summer I started skating and it starts to slowly piece itself back together,” he says.

After missing playoffs last season, Bruce says part of putting that behind them was the team getting healthy again.

“First things first, I think everybody just needed to get healthy. That was really important for us, we had a ton of injuries last season,” he says. “It’s nice to see everyone healthy now, coming back to camp, and I’m excited to see what the beginning of the season holds.”

Game time tomorrow night is 7 o’clock.
