It was a busy long weekend for the North Bay OPP.

In addition to a fatal house fire in Mattawa and the closure of two highways there were also 7 other collisions.

57 provincial offense notices were issued and 6 were for distracted driving.

Other incidents include a driver turning away from a R.I.D.E. checkpoint.

That driver was eventually located and was issued a 3 day drivers licence suspension.

As well, a 23 year old North Bay motorist was charged with driving over the legal limit of alcohol.

Meantime, Mattawa OPP had a report of two overdue canoeists in Algonquin Park.

Police were called Saturday night around 9 pm and the canoeists were located the following afternoon around 1 pm.

They had missed a turn onto the Madawaska River and became separated from their group.

The pair were found safe and uninjured.

Also, a 46 year old Powassan male has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. This is connection with a break and enter last month at a boy scout camp in Boulter Township.

And Almaguin Highlands OPP issued 73 provincial offence notices on the long weekend.

The list includes 61 speeding charges and two distracted driving counts.

The detachment also investigated 4 motor vehicle collisions with no injuries sustained.

As well, a 29 year old male is facing several charges including impaired driving, driving while under suspension and driving while disqualified.

And a 35 year old Toronto man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the ATV he was in was involved in a collision.
