The North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit says a bloom of blue-green algae has been detected in Bernard Lake in Strong Township.

They advise people not to use the water for drinking, cooking and bathing if they use a private water system.

The health unit says boiling the water won’t destroy the toxins.

You’re also advised not to swim or do other activities in the water as this could increase the risk of getting toxins in your skin or mouth.

Also be careful if you catch fish in the area and don’t eat the liver, kidneys and other organs or fish caught.
