A Canadore College student is on top of the world.

Jason Manella has been chosen as one of three screenwriters from around the world in the International Jameson Short Film competition.

Yura Monestime is the associate dean for the school of Media Design and Dramatic Arts at Canadore.

He says the 3rd year Digital Cinematography student is currently in L.A. beginning production of his short script A Funny Thing Happened to Kelly and Ted.

He says it’s not just anybody in Hollywood he’ll be working with.

He says award winning producer Dana Brunetti who was involved in movies like Captain Phillips and The Social Network.

Monestime says this promises to be a once in a lifetime experience for the student.

He says the work will feature well known actor actor Dominic West.

His script was chosen out of 2,000 submissions.

Monestime says this experience will be a great opportunity for Manella and is proof of the top flight education he’s getting at Canadore.

Monestime says the recognition is great for the student but also for the program.

As for the industry he says there’s a lot happening in North Bay and Canadore is in the middle of the action with students getting work on films being shot here.

Monestime says they’re looking forward to the new post production program which students get to learn in starting in the fall at a brand new facility.
