The final staff recommendations involving the future of six North Bay schools are going to the Near North District School Board at their monthly meeting tonight (Tuesday).

The report is slated to be received with a public meeting on the issue coming up June 12th and the board voting on the plan June 27th.

Staff recommend the Accommodations Review Committee recommendations be accepted with alterations.

Those include consultation and analysis to determine the appropriate north secondary school site, either Widdifield or Chippewa, that will stay open.

The ARC recommended Chippewa close with West Ferris and Widdifield remaining open.

Staff also recommend both of the schools that will be staying open be refurbished instead of new builds.

The ARC recommendation calls for W.J. Fricker, E.T. Carmichael and E.W. Norman to close with a new build on the Fricker site.
