MPP Vic Fedeli’s Private Member’s Bill, The Safe Texting Zones Act has passed 2nd reading.

He says all parties supported the bill and the vote was unanimous.

As for what happens next he says the bill will go to the finance committee.

Fedeli says Liberal MPP’s are telling him this is a great bill and they hope it becomes law.

He says if it gets through committee it’ll be up to the government as to when the vote will be on final reading.

He’s hoping before the end of the year.

If passed, the bill would designate rest stops, parking lots or other areas as texting zones.

Fedeli says there would be no infrastructure added just signage.

He says the bill is an attempt to combat distracted driving.

Fedeli says if passed there’ll be a safe place to answer a text and you don’t have to answer it while you’re driving.
