North Bay City Council has passed a motion on energy costs and a possible solution to lessen the impact for businesses and residents.

City Councillor Mike Anthony, who brought forward the motion, says the Ontario Chamber of Commerce has issued a report called Leading the Charge.

He says the motion calls on the province to look at the chamber report, which has been endorsed by the local chamber as well.

Anthony says there are some inconsistencies going on.

He says the cost to produce energy has increased by less than 40 per cent over the last decade or so, but the cost of energy for the consumer and the business owner is just below 400 per cent higher and that has upset a lot of people.

Anthony says the report wants the province to look at shorter term ways to secure energy.

A copy of the motion has been sent to the Premier, the Minister of Energy and other provincial leaders.
