No decision was made by city council last night on the future of the Dionne Quints Home.

After several presentations were made to keep the home and artifacts in one location in North Bay council never actually voted on the motion.

Instead, an amendment to give a local group 30 days to come up with their own plan for keeping the home here was defeated by a 5-4 vote.

Instead of going back to the original motion, Councillor Chris Mayne called for the amendment to be reconsidered at the next council meeting and that’ll happen.

Councillor Derek Shogren wasn’t too happy saying he wanted the issue dealt with last night.

He says there is passion on both sides of the issue in this but it’s time for council to decide.

Joshua Pride of the Friends of the Dionne Quintuplets Home Museum Committee is attempting to keep the home and museum here.

He wasn’t happy with Shogren’s comment.

He says he was disappointed to hear Shogen’s comment on such an important topic.

He says comments like that should be considered at election time.

Sheldon Forgette wasn’t at the meeting last night and Councillor Mike Anthony declared a conflict and that’s why the 5-4 vote.

Mayor Al McDonald had the deciding vote.

He says the delay should give the committee extra time to put forward their proposal.

McDonald says it could be between 4-6 weeks before council makes a final decision.
