A council committee is recommending the city divvy up the Dionne Quints Museum.

Under the proposal adopted last night by the committee the home and artifacts would go to the Strong Township Agricultural Society with artifacts also going to the Callander Bay Museum and important paper documents would be transferred to the Harris Leaning Library.

Managing Director of Community Services John Severino says there was no official local offer to keep the home here and there would be a big financial impact to the city, if they took the home over.

He says the annual operating cost to run the museum would be between $125,000 and $175,000 a year.

Plus, there would be capital costs.

He says they would have to pay for moving and rehabilitating the home, which is estimated at a one time cost of between $550,000 and $620,000.

Severino says the cost to move the artifacts to Strong would be between $65,000 and $75,000, but fundraising efforts in Strong would continue once council approves the move.

During the museums operation in North Bay, the number of annual visitors dropped substantially from 15,000 in 1986 and 1987 to just over 3,200 in 2015.
