Mattawa’s John “Chick” Webster is now the oldest living NHLer.  When Milt Schmidt passed away at the age of 98 earlier this month, the 96-year old Webster assumed the mantle of oldest living NHL player.  Chick was born in Toronto in 1920 and played 14 games in the NHL back during the 1949-50 season before an injury to his wrist ended his NHL career.   Webster went on to play minor-league and amateur hockey until 1965 and was a staple on Oldtimers hockey teams well into his 70’s. Chick’s brother Don also played in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs. We had a chance to talk to John an Rob Webster earlier this week and they both shared memories of Chick’s career and the family legacy of hockey.Click on the play button to hear our interview.
