The city is looking to reduce unaccounted-for water loss with city-wide leak detection testing taking place over the next four to five weeks.

Water Mark Solutions has been brought on board to do the testing.

Chair of Engineering and Works Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says the program is meant to track down potential hidden leaks in the water distribution system.

She points out they can’t just rip up every street and check to see if there’s a leak, so they’ll use this system to find out where to dig.

Vrebosch says it’s a cost-efficient approach that should result in long-term efficiencies and savings.

The majority of the testing will be on city property, but there may be a need to connect to the property line valves of residences suspected of having a leak.

All Water Mark Solutions staff will be carrying photo identification and documentation.
