A new initiative targeting Fentanyl is underway involving Near North Crime Stoppers.

Police Coordinator Jean Lemieux says it’s taking place this month and next, “The Near North Crime Stoppers Board of Directors has agreed to guarantee a $1,000 reward for any information that will lead to the arrest of people trafficking Fentanyl or seizures of Fentanyl.”

Lemieux says in August the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police put out a public advisory over Fentanyl, pointing out there have been about 600 deaths attributed to Fentanyl across Canada.

“Our policing partners, they’re doing good work on it (Fentanyl), but this is just a little boost to try to get the interest of the public, to provide information,” he said.
